Stem Cuttings Steps	Choose a healthy stem near the branching point of the plant. The stem should be about 4-6 inches long. Use a clean, sharp knife or pruning shears to cut the stem. Make sure to wear gloves to protect your skin from the toxic sap. Allow the cut end of the stem to dry and callous over for several days. This helps prevent rot when the cutting is planted. Fill a small pot with 60% pumice and 40% cactus/succulent potting mix. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging. Optional: Dip the cut end of the stem into rooting hormone to encourage root growth. Insert the calloused end of the cutting into the potting mix, burying about half of its length and then firm the soil around the cutting to hold it in place. Lightly water the soil to moisten it. Be careful not to overwater, as this can cause the cutting to rot. Place the pot in a location with bright, indirect sunlight in a warm environment. 70-75°F (21-24°C) is ideal. Keep the soil slightly moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. After a few weeks, gently tug on the cutting to check for resistance, indicating root development. Once the cutting has established roots and shows new growth, it can be transplanted into a larger pot or its permanent location.
